A True Love Story: Guiding Each Other Towards Allah

Marriage is not just about companionship, comfort, or sharing life’s burdens. At its core, a true Islamic marriage is a partnership on the journey to Allah. It is about two people reminding each other, encouraging one another, and sometimes correcting one another, so that both can reach their final destination—Jannah.

One day, a husband asked his wife gently:

Husband: “Have you prayed Asr?”

Wife:“No, I was tired after work and decided to take a nap.”

Husband: “Alright, go pray Asr and Maghrib before it’s time for Isha.”

The next day, the husband traveled out of town for business. Normally, he would call or text his wife immediately upon landing, to assure her of his safety. But this time, hours passed with no message. The wife, worried, kept calling him again and again, but he did not answer. Her heart grew uneasy—this was unlike him.

Finally, after several hours, the phone rang. It was her husband.

Wife (worried): “Have you arrived safely?”

Husband: “Yes, Alhamdulillah.”

Wife: “When?”

Husband: “About four hours ago.”

Wife (frustrated): “Four hours ago? And you didn’t call? Do you know how worried I was?”

Husband: “I was tired, so I decided to take a nap.”

Wife: “But you could have taken a minute to call me. Didn’t you hear my phone calls?”

Husband: “Yes, I heard it.”

Wife (hurt): “And you didn’t pick up? Are my calls not important to you?”

The husband paused, then spoke with calm wisdom:

Husband: “Your calls are very important to me. But yesterday, you didn’t seem to mind ignoring the call of Allah—the Athan.”

Her eyes filled with tears. She fell silent for a moment, realizing the lesson hidden in his words.

Wife (softly): “You’re right… I’m sorry.”

Husband: “Don’t apologize to me. Seek forgiveness from Allah, and don’t repeat the same mistake again. All I want in this life is for Allah to unite us in a palace in Jannah, where we can begin our eternal life together.”

From that day onward, the wife never delayed her prayers again.

The Lesson

True love is not measured by words, gifts, or constant attention. True love is when someone reminds you of your duties to Allah, even if it stings at first. The husband in this story demonstrated what it means to love sincerely—he wanted for his wife what he wanted for himself: a life of obedience to Allah and an eternal union in Paradise.

“The one who truly loves you is the one who pushes you forward on your path to Allah and stops you from going backwards in life.”
